Tutorial : Controlling the Prompter

Now that Listec Pro has been put into Prompt mode, we can start scrolling. The Listec serial control will be used to control the prompter's scrolling.

This section will cover the basic functions of the serial controller:

Start (Green Button)

In the prompter window, the Index Arrow will at first display a red dot in the center to indicate that the prompter is stopped.

Press the Green Button on the serial controller. Depending on the position of the speed control knob, the dot color of the Index Arrow will change: if the speed control is neutral (neither forwards nor backwards), the dot will be yellow, and no scrolling will occur; if the speed control is at a scrolling position, the dot will turn green, and you will see the script begin to scroll.

Stop (Red Button)

Now, press the Red Button on the serial controller. The dot color of the Index Arrow will now change to red to indicate that scrolling has stopped. It's always a good idea to stop the prompter when it's not scrolling -- not doing so ties up the computer's resources.

Speed Control Knob

Next, press the Green Button on the controller, and then turn the Speed Control Knob away from you (if you're looking at the knob, turn it clockwise). The Index Arrow's dot turns green, and the text begins to scroll forwards.

Notice that the speed gradually increases as you turn the knob from the center point all the way to its fully clockwise position, and that it goes to "neutral" when it's at its center point (the Index Arrow dot turns yellow as well).

Now, turn the knob in a counter-clockwise direction, and notice that the text now starts scrolling backwards -- the more you turn the knob, the faster the scrolling.

Previous and Next Script (PRV/NXT)

Press the red button on the controller to stop the prompter, and then press the NXT Button. You will notice the prompter window transition to the next script that's in the runlist.

Now press the PRV Button. The prompter window then transitions to the top of the previous script in the runlist.

Try pressing the PRV and NXT buttons to get a feel for how the prompter transitions between scripts. Notice too that when you're on the last or first script in the runlist, the program "loops" back to the script at the other end of the list.

Recall (RCL)

As a final exercise, scroll down a little ways in a script, and then press the RCL Button on the serial controller. You will then see the script return back to the top.
